    Helena Sprenger


    Helena Sprenger is the resident partner in Houthoff Buruma's New York office and advises clients, including many large international corporations, institutional investors and financial institutions, in the context of corporate finance, cross border M&A transactions and international capital markets transactions. She also has a particular expertise in high-value asset financing and (the restructuring of) cross border lease transactions. Helena not only advises under Netherlands law, but also under the laws applicable in the Dutch Caribbean, including Curaçao, Aruba and Suriname. She has extensive experience in coordinating large multinational teams working together in multi-jurisdictional finance transactions. Before joining Houthoff Buruma in 2012 Helena was a partner of a leading global law firm where she headed the Dutch law practice in New York.

      We advised Bank of America in a USD 150 Million secured finance transaction with a US based multinational chemical corporation. The complex Dutch partnership structure of the borrower created some interesting challenges with respect to the security package to which we found appropriate solutions. We worked together with US co-counsel Shearman & Sterling in this matter.

      Advised CBRE Global Investment Partners, part of one of the world’s premier, full-service commercial real estate services and investment companies, on setting up a Dutch fund targeting European co-investment and joint venture strategies, having raised a total of  USD 840 million of equity sourced from six investors.

      Houthoff Buruma, together with Stikeman Elliott LLP, advised Essar Steel Algoma, Inc. and its (Dutch) group companies in respect of a US$ 200 million DIP-financing, which was provided by Deutsche Bank AG for the purpose of the voluntary proceedings under (i) the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and (ii) chapter 15 of title 11 of the United States Code.
