Marleen is an adviser and candidate civil-law notary for the Corporate M&A Practice Group. She started in 1998 as a candidate civil-law notary. Marleen specialises in (notarial) company law and the laws on various legal entities, such as foundations (stichtingen). She advises on governance and governance structures, especially in the semi-public sector (amongst others health care institutions) and the cultural sector.

Marleen conducted a doctoral research (Ph.D.) and obtained a doctorate in April 2018 at the University of Utrecht. Her doctoral thesis is called "The role and the position of the supervisory board of the Dutch foundation". Marleen regularly publishes in various academic journals and contributes to book publications. She is a permanent contributor to Kluwer's legal journal on corporate law (Rechtspraak Ondernemingsrecht Praktisch Bewerkt). Besides her work at Houthoff she is an associate professor at the University of Amsterdam (UvA).
