Joost specialises in insolvency law and restructurings. He frequently advises bankruptcy trustees, directors, debtors and creditors. In addition, Joost has a particular interest in high complexity cases at the interface between insolvency law, civil law and financial regulatory law. As such, he also regularly represents public authorities and financial institutions. Joost was involved in the consultation process of the Recovery and Resolution (Insurers) Act (Wet herstel en afwikkeling van verzekeraars) and has considerable experience in this area. He also worked as a secretary and legal adviser for the Derivatives Committee, which was responsible for creating the Uniform Recovery Framework (a scheme to compensate Dutch SMEs for interest rate derivatives concluded with the six major banks in the Netherlands).

Joost is a member of the Insolvency Practitioners Association (INSOLAD) and the Dutch Restructuring Association (NVvH). In addition, he is affiliated with INSOL Europe and INSOL International.

In 2018 and 2019, Joost worked as the deputy company secretary at Heineken for 14 months. His work there mostly involved matters related to corporate governance and regulatory compliance.

  • Advised Lumileds, a global leader in innovative lighting solutions, in its comprehensive financial restructuring. Lumileds emerged from a Chapter 11, resulting in a leadership transition and a funded debt reduction of approximately USD 1.4 billion.
