Almost two decades ago, two of the most eminent law firms in the Netherlands, Houthoff and Buruma Maris, combined their strength and merged to form Houthoff Buruma. Since our inception we have had the privilege of advising clients in matters that have been pivotal to developments in the legal system and that have helped define best practices.
Houthoff Buruma has been involved in many landmark cases that have been instrumental in changing the legal landscape. For example, Houthoff Buruma is currently involved in the largest bankruptcy in history, as a bankruptcy trustee of Lehman Brothers Treasury Co., the largest creditor of Lehman Brothers. In 2007, the firm represented ABN AMRO in its Supreme Court litigation, which resulted in a successful outcome for ABN AMRO, allowing it to sell LaSalle to Bank of America. We also advised Arcelor on the $33.8 billion merger with Mittal Steel in 2006, creating the largest steel producing company in the world.
Drawing on the legal expertise we have built up over the years has enabled us to place current events in a historical context. Although we are proud of our roots, and the history that we leave behind us, we are more focused on what lies ahead of us.
On 30 October 2017 Houthoff Buruma changed its name to Houthoff.
