Bill on the future of pensions

The pension system in the Netherlands is facing a major overhaul. The National Pension Agreement, which was signed in 2019, has been fine-tuned in a draft bill for a 'Dutch Future of Pensions Act' (Wet toekomst pensioenen ).

The draft bill requires updating all existing pension plans where members accrue pensions on 31 December 2022. The changes will impact every employer that offers a pension plan. Read on for more on the legal aspects of the new pension system, a timetable and updates on the latest developments.
