Houthoff starts the year with a new board

Alexander Kaarls and Lucas Louwerier joined Houthoff’s board on 1 January 2022 as successors to Albert Knigge and Hans Londonck Sluijk, whose terms in office have ended. Edward de Bock will continue as Managing Partner on the new board, which has been appointed for a term of three years.

M&A lawyer Alexander has an impressive track record as an adviser on complex cross-border mergers, acquisitions and capital market transactions. Lucas is a civil-law notary specialising in real estate transactions and property development. “In its new composition, we have a board that once again offers a wealth of experience and a wide range of expertise for us to draw on,” explains Houthoff’s Managing Partner Edward de Bock. “We can take the wonderful work that Albert and Hans have done for our firm and move forward strongly. I am confident and excited about working with our new board members.”

Alexander Kaarls and Lucas Louwerier: extensive knowledge

Over almost 30 years as a lawyer, Alexander has acquired a prominent position in major international M&A cases. He also advises on corporate governance, joint ventures and securities law compliance. Before moving to Houthoff in 2004, he spent ten years with US law firm Skadden in Palo Alto (California), London and Brussels. Lucas joined Houthoff’s real estate practice in 2004. As a civil-law notary, he assists clients that include institutional investors, private equity houses, pension funds and property developers with corporate and other real estate transactions, property development and financing.

Former board members: full focus on a flourishing practice

After five years of helping to run the firm, Albert will shift his full focus back to the litigation practice. Hans, a specialist in insurance law, professional liability and directors’ and officers’ liability, will also dedicate himself fully to his practice once more.
