Global Arbitration Review launched 17th edition GAR 100

26 March 2024

We are once again recognised by GAR 100 and are included in the 17th edition among the world’s elite firms for international arbitration. The criteria for the survey included reputation, experience and the amount of work.

The 25-strong arbitration practice is led by partner Dirk Knottenbelt in Rotterdam, who also sits as arbitrator and deputy judge. He is on the advisory board of the recently launched Hague Court of Arbitration for Aviation.

The Rotterdam office is also home to partners Thomas Stouten and Remme Verkerk. Stouten is a member of the ICC Court while Verkerk handles cases before the Dutch Supreme Court.

Client comments

One client, whom Houthoff has assisted in several US$100 million-plus arbitrations, calls the firm “super-fast, diligent and effective” and “absolutely at the top of its market”. Thomas Stouten is praised as “a particularly impressive and effective lawyer who is pleasant to work with, highly responsive and reassuring”.

Another client, who also praises Stouten, describes Houthoff’s professionals as “first-class and highly efficient lawyers”.

A third source says, “The entire team is extremely business savvy and really understands what’s important for us. It has the biggest and best arbitration team in the Netherlands, which has lots of international expertise.”
