Carmen Bakas represents Houthoff in Houston, Texas. Her focus is on developing close ties with our local clients and firms to create new alliances and strengthen our network. Carmen works closely on this with both our New York and our Netherlands-based lawyers who will be visiting Houston regularly. Carmen is an adjunct professor at the law faculty of the University of Houston and an adviser to the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation.
Carmen has worked as an international corporate lawyer with law firms in The Netherlands, London, Singapore and Mumbai. She has assisted Dutch companies abroad and advised foreign companies on doing business in the Netherlands. She has experience working in multiple jurisdictions and in various industries such as energy and finance. Carmen was also appointed as a substitute judge in the Netherlands. She regularly speaks at conferences about creating awareness and understanding of legal empowerment as the means of increasing the capacity of people to exercise their rights as individuals or groups.
