Laila specialises in employment law and pensions law. She advises clients mainly in relation to matters concerning corporate employment law, employment participation law and pensions law arising from the M&A practice. Laila's work also focuses on the law of individual and collective redundancy, and she is often engaged to assist with complex employee participation programmes, management agreements and the transfer of companies. Laila is also a CPL (Certified Pension Lawyer) and chair of the Dispute Committee of the Sector Pension Fund for Architects.

  • Houthoff advised a.s.r., a large Dutch insurance company, on the acquisition of VvAA Levensverzekeringen, the life insurance business of VvAA Groep. The life insurance portfolio comprises approximately 18,000 policies. The annual premium income is EUR 28m, and the technical provisions amount to EUR 430m. In addition to a multi-year life insurance partnership, VvAA and a.s.r. also intend to further expand the services to VvAA members.
  • Houthoff advised Strik Bedrijven Beheer B.V. on the sale of 75% of the shares in Innovative Taste B.V. to Barentz International B.V.

  • Houthoff advised Hexaware Technologies Ltd on the acquisition of Mobiquity Inc. Mobiquity provides digital consulting services for the world’s leading brands, such as Amazon Web Services, Rabobank, Philips, Wawa, Backbase and Otsuka. Houthoff worked jointly with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP on this transaction.

  • Houthoff represented Oceanco in the acquisition of the Heerema Fabrication Group's facilities located at the Noordweg, Zwijndrecht. Oceanco is a world-class builder of custom superyachts in the 80-140 meters range. This acquisition enables Oceanco to further expand its shipyard activities in the Netherlands.

  • Houthoff – together with Sidley Austin LLP – represented Wex Inc., a leading financial technology service provider, in connection with its planned acquisition of EG Group Limited’s GO Fuel Card business. The Go Fuel Card business is headquartered in Breda, Netherlands with approximately 200,000 proprietary cards in circulation across the Netherlands, France, Belgium and Luxembourg.

  • Houthoff, together with Nishimura & Asahi, represented OAT Agrio Co. Ltd. ("OAT") in the acquisition of Blue Wave Holding B.V., the holding company of Chrysal International. Chrysal is engaged in the field of producing, selling and distributing branded and private label post-harvest flower care and nutrient products.

  • Houthoff advised Nobia on the acquisition of Bribus Holding B.V., a Dutch kitchen supplier with annual sales of approximately EUR 65 million. Bribus was founded 90 years ago and is acquired from Bernhard ten Brinke, who remains in the company. 
  • Houthoff represented Simadan in the sale of its businesses to Parcom Capital and John Swire & Sons. Parcom Capital will acquire the businesses Noba and Rotie. John Swire & Sons will acquire Biodiesel Amsterdam, Tankstorage Amsterdam and Cleaning & Services Amsterdam, a cleaning terminal for (bulk) trucks. The transactions are subject to Dutch and UK antitrust clearance.
  • Houthoff advised H2 Equity Partners on the sale of Reparenco, a Dutch paper and recycling business, to Smurfit Kappa Group plc for a cash consideration of approximately €460 million. Smurfit Kappa Group plc is one of the world's largest integrated manufacturers of paper-based packaging products with operations in Europe and the Americas.

  • Houthoff advised Poiesz Supermarkten B.V., a chain of supermarkets in the Northern Netherlands, on the acquisition of Zorggroep Friesland B.V., sole shareholder of  Van Smaak B.V.. Van Smaak B.V. delivers meals to healthcare institutions and individual customers and has the whole relating process (including the purchase of the raw materials, processing and logistics) in house.
