Advocaat | Senior Associate
Philip specialises in proceedings before the Supreme Court. He also represents clients at the European Court of Justice, as well as often litigates before the Dutch district and appeal courts. In his eight years at Houthoff, Philip has litigated around 80 cases before the Dutch Supreme Court and provided a multitude of advice on cassation. He has also represented clients before the European Court of Justice on several occasions. Cassation proceedings have both a legal and a technical nature, as a result of which the legal discussion can sometimes dominate over a client’s actual interests in cassation. Philip ensures that these interests also remain central to the proceedings. He prefers practical and swift solutions in both cassation and other instances, where possible. Philip focuses mainly on contract law, liability law, the law of civil procedure, private law in relation to the public sector, and real estate law.
Philip is a member of the Dutch Association of Civil Cassation Litigators, the Dutch Association for Procedural Law, the Dutch Construction Law Association, and a main editor of the Maandblad van Vermogensrecht journal. In addition, Philip regularly lectures to lawyers at the Eggens Institute of the University of Amsterdam and the Law Firm School, and publishes in different legal journals.
