Energy in the Environment and Planning Act – Sustainability Obligation, EED and Energy Label

Reducing our energy consumption is one of the most important ways in which the Dutch government aims to achieve Europe's climate goals. In 2023, it therefore introduced an energy label C obligation for offices. In the same year, it also changed the energy saving obligation, expanding it to include an obligation to use more sustainable sources of energy. These obligations came on top of the previously introduced EED audit obligation.

As all these obligations have also been incorporated in the EPA and are still invariably relevant, we have briefly set out their main elements in our Energy fact sheet, along with a specification of the laws and regulations where these obligations can be found from 1 January 2024.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact one of our experts: Marloes Brans, Monica Sonderegger, Jet Akkerman, Felix Kelder or Pepijn Smits.
The factsheet is available in Dutch. If you would like an English translation, please contact omgevingswet@houthoff.com.
