Equal Pay and Pay Transparency Workshop
Houthoff will be hosting the Equal Pay and Pay Transparency Workshop in Amsterdam on 3 April 2025. Emma Lok, director of WOMEN Inc., will kick off the afternoon with an inspiring keynote, after which speakers from Houthoff will explain the legal framework regarding equal pay and pay transparency. This will be followed by two workshops in which Buis Boone, data scientist and pay gap researcher at Erasmus University Rotterdam, and employment lawyers Jet Stolk and Yillis Smit will provide practical tips and tools.
EU Pay Transparency Directive
The immediate reason for the workshop is the new EU Pay Transparency Directive, which entails new obligations for employers to counter pay discrimination and narrow the gender pay gap. Employers are required to disclose pay data and to take action if the pay difference is more than 5%. Employees will be entitled to enquire into their own pay level and the average pay level for similar work and can receive compensation in the event of pay discrimination. At the same time, sanctions can be imposed on employers that do not observe the rules.
The Directive must be implemented in Dutch legislation by 7 June 2026. There is currently no bill yet, but we expect the draft bill to be published soon. Employers should therefore start collecting data and scrutinise their remuneration policies in 2025 to meet these new requirements, combat inequality and prevent future claims.
