Jan-Paul van der Hoek becomes partner at Active Capital Company

26 October 2018
After 23 years, Van der Hoek leaves law firm Houthoff and will move to hands-on private equity investor Active Capital Company.

After completing his law degree in Rotterdam, Jan-Paul van der Hoek (1970) immediately joined Houthoff, where he specialised in cross-border mergers and acquisitions and became one of the leading M&A partners in the Netherlands. Since 2014, he has headed Houthoff's corporate/M&A-team. Van der Hoek has been named best M&A lawyer by publishing company SDU.

Edward de Bock, managing partner at Houthoff, on Van der Hoek's departure: "We are very grateful to Jan-Paul for the way in which he has shaped our Corporate/M&A-team. Jan-Paul is always there for his clients and also has a sharp eye for talent development. Under his supervision the team expanded to 70 top-quality lawyers with the same enthusiasm as Jan-Paul. We congratulate him on his career switch to a top company in another industry."

Michiel Pannekoek, corporate partner at Houthoff adds: "With Jan-Paul's departure, a highly respected colleague and successful lawyer is leaving, but we look forward to working together with him in his new role at Active Capital Company."

Dick Zeldenthuis, partner and co-founder of Active Capital Company, on Van der Hoek joining them: "We have worked with Houthoff since our company was incorporated, always supervised by Jan-Paul. He has an enormous amount of deal experience and is a heavyweight in the market. As a person he also fits in very well with the Active Capital Company family. Van der Hoek, together with Mels Huige and I, will work on the overall management of Active Capital Company; we are growing fast and it is time for the next step, both as regards further professionalisation and the acceleration of our investments. Now that the first three successful exits have taken place and the latest fund has largely been invested, we will soon start raising funds for the next fund."
