This incident illustrates why product safety is high on the European Commission’s agenda. The Commission is organising the International Product Safety Week in Brussels from 7 to 10 September, one of the most important EU events in the field of product safety. The theme of this anniversary edition is Product Safety in Motion and it focuses on product safety in consumer markets, digitalisation and new technologies.
The Commission is also presenting a proposal this month for the European Product Act, which will, amongst other things, update the New Legislative Framework and the Market Surveillance Regulation. This will change the rules for manufacturers on market access, CE marking and conformity assessment. The supervision of unsafe or non-compliant products and the enforcement of legislation will also change.
