Whistleblowing

Whistleblowing

Persons working at or for an organisation can report abuses at that organisation, for example fraud, corruption or any other abuses or irregularities. This is often referred to as whistleblowing. Organisations are obliged to handle whistleblowing reports carefully.

It is very important to do so, too, as the report and the circumstances in question can have major implications for the organisation. They can result in a loss of trust among stakeholders, such as customers, shareholders and employees. Moreover, a report can prompt actions by regulatory authorities or the Public Prosecution Service. Careful preparation and handling of whistleblowing reports is therefore vital.

The Houthoff Investigations Team has extensive experience with internal investigations following whistleblowing reports. Working closely with other teams, Houthoff has all the expertise necessary to provide legal and strategic advice on the steps to be taken after an internal investigation, related employment law aspects and the implementation of an internal whistleblowing procedure.
