“Marije’s extensive experience in large climate transition and infrastructure projects will enable us to strengthen our practice even more. We are delighted to expand our team with such an energetic and pragmatic lawyer who feels at home in the boardroom“, says Marloes Brans, partner and Head of Climate Risk & Sustainability at Houthoff.
After working for nearly ten years as a lawyer (since 1998), Marije moved to Tata Steel in 2008, where she was responsible for all environmental and sustainability cases of the steel company, both inside and outside the Netherlands. From 2016 to 2020, she worked for Tata Steel’s European management board as an executive officer to the CEO. In 2020, she co-led one of the largest climate projects in the Netherlands, Green Steel.
Operating at the interface of politics, law and public administration, Marije was responsible for the permitting and participation processes and served as boardroom counsel on sustainability and the environment.
Marije Verweij: “I’m thrilled about my move to Houthoff. The firm’s strategy and culture and its strong Climate Risk & Sustainability practice really appealed to me. Much is in store for this practice in the coming decades and I look forward to playing my part in all that.“
