Kim Schuurmans

Kim specialises in commercial contract law. She advises, negotiates and litigates on many aspects relating to commercial contracts, including matters concerning distribution, franchising, agency, e-commerce, marketing and financing agreements. 

Her extensive experience includes assisting with the entire process of contracting: starting from the negotiations (including pre-contractual) and the drafting of memoranda of understanding to the drafting of commercial contracts (such as translating commercial agreements into a legal framework, contractual limitation of risks and liability, and legal requirements, i.e. general business law, consumer law and online contracting), as well as the termination of agreements and their settlement. She also advises and litigates on many contractual issues, such as the interpretation of contractual obligations, default and non-conformity, liability (including pre-contractual), and the termination of long-term and short-term agreements.

Kim is called upon to resolve disputes with suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, agents and consumers. She primarily acts for manufacturers and importers in various sectors, including vehicles, heavy machinery and luxury consumer products, and their financing companies. 

She regularly publishes on contract law topics. Kim is also an editorial board member of Wolters Kluwer's Rechtspraak Contractenrecht (jurisprudence on contract law), a leading Dutch legal journal on commercial contracting.

She has been a member of the Dutch Bar Association since 2009 and joined Houthoff in 2019. In 2017, Kim completed Grotius Academy's postgraduate course 'National and International Contracting'.
