Our nomination centres on the adapted planting on our rooftop terrace. The initiative stems from our sustainability ambitions and takes further shape following a visit from a city ecologist. Together with our regular gardener, we subsequently looked at the planting on the rooftop terrace. The result is a practical way of creating more space for biodiversity in the Zuidas area. The twenty young trees we received as sponsors of the ‘Birthday Forest’ on the A10 to mark Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary have also been planted here.
The practical nature of the initiative was an important reason for submitting it for the award. Sustainable change does not always have to start with a large-scale project. Relatively accessible measures can also make a difference and can be adopted by other organisations. In this way, the initiative reflects the aim of the Zuidas Sustainability Award to showcase sustainable projects and inspire others.
The project goes beyond the rooftop terrace itself. We also share the knowledge gained through the initiative. We presented the project within Green Business Club Zuidas, while the city ecologist also gave a presentation as part of our Climate Café. This brings together sustainability, collaboration and knowledge sharing.
In addition to the jury assessment, there is also a Public Choice Award. Voting is open until 10 November, and the winners will be announced at RAI Amsterdam on 12 November.
